Dan Heimiller has returned to the WSOP spotlight, winning Event #6: $1,500 Seven Card Stud for $106,840. The 62-year-old veteran added a third bracelet to his name after outlasting a field of 377 entries in Las Vegas.
ood to know
- Heimiller now has 22 WSOP final table appearances.
- His career tournament earnings have crossed $8.3 million.
- He last won a bracelet in 2014, in the Seniors event.
Heimiller led the field into the final six and maintained momentum throughout the day. He defeated David Bach heads-up after eliminating four other players at the final table. Tyler Phillips went out in third, Greg Mueller and Kristan Lord were also in the mix, and Bach fought hard to stay alive for several hours before falling short. Heimiller wrapped it up with a two-pair hand that edged out Bach’s lower two-pair to take the title.
In typical Heimiller fashion, he gave a refreshingly candid take on what helped him succeed in the long run: “I think stubbornness. I just won’t quit. Wouldn’t quit poker when I should have… but I persisted.” That mindset has carried him across decades at the table, starting from his breakout at the 1997 WSOP where he reached two final tables.
The last time Heimiller won a bracelet was more than a decade ago, when he claimed the 2014 Seniors title for $627,462. His first came in 2002, in a mixed format event that included stud. Although he plays mostly no-limit hold’em today, he has long believed he has an edge in less common formats like stud.
“I think [I have] a big edge, big edge,” he said. “It dawned on me early, different techniques that I was doing that other people weren’t even considering.”
Heimiller’s style extends beyond his gameplay. Known for his eccentric humor, he built a quirky public image. His old personal website had an intentionally outdated design, and his LinkedIn once described him as “Master of the Universe.” He says he plays not just for the money, but also for the laughs.
“Actually, the reason people play poker is not obvious to observers,” Heimiller said. “It can look boring, but in reality, it’s more of a comedy magic show. Out of nine players, eight are having a great time, and only one is dealing with nonsense.”
