John Hennigan, a Poker Hall of Fame member, has added a seventh World Series of Poker (WSOP) gold bracelet to his collection. Winning Event $7 of the series, the 2024 WSOP $1,500 Dealer’s Choice Six-Max , Hennigan is now one of only nine players in history to achieve this milestone.
“Very happy to win the tournament,” Hennigan told WSOP reporters. “The best thing about winning is not losing. It’s very satisfying to come out on top.”
Hennigan’s victories span various poker formats. His first bracelet came in 2002 with the $2,000 H.O.R.S.E. event, followed by a win in the 2004 $5,000 Limit Hold’em. He clinched the 2014 $50,000 Poker Player’s Championship, a prestigious mixed game tournament. His subsequent wins include the 2016 Triple Draw Deuce-to-Seven Lowball Championship, the 2018 H.O.R.S.E. Championship, and the 2019 Stud Championship.
With nearly $9.6 million in career tournament earnings, about $6.1 million of that from 50 WSOP cashes, Hennigan’s poker prowess is well-established. He also holds a World Poker Tour title, having won the 2007 WPT Winter Poker Open for $1.6 million.
The 2024 event attracted 530 entries, creating a $707,550 prize pool, distributed among the top 80 finishers. The tournament, featuring over 20 poker variants, saw deep runs from notable players such as Phil Hui (25th), Benny Glaser (24th), Jeff Madsen (12th), Shaun Deeb (8th), and online veteran Viktor ‘Isildur1’ Blom (4th)
In the heads-up play for the title, Hennigan started with a huge lead, holding 11,300,000 to Robert Wells’ 1,950,000. The decisive hand came during a round of No-Limit Deuce-to-Seven Single Draw Lowball. Hennigan shoved from the button, and Wells called. Both stood pat, with Wells showing J-10-7-3-2, which was second best to Hennigan’s J-9-8-7-5. Wells earned $90,339, a career-best live score, for his runner-up finish.
