Missouri Casinos Report $177 Million in August as Sports Betting Nears Launch

Missouri’s riverboat casinos saw strong results in August 2025, while operators are already positioning themselves for the state’s first legal sports betting launch in December.

The Missouri Gaming Commission reported that statewide casino revenue hit $177.5m in August, up from $163.3m a year earlier. Out of the 13 operating properties, nine recorded year-on-year growth, two were flat, and two saw declines.

Slot machines once again carried the market, generating $151.8m compared to $139.3m last year. Table games climbed to $25.7m, a 21.5% increase, while hybrid tables added just over $30,000.

• Ameristar Casino St. Charles – $27.3m (up from $25.5m)
• River City Casino – more than $20m (+11%)
• Hollywood Casino – more than $20m (+3%)
• St. Jo Frontier Casino – $4.2m (down 2%)

Getting Ready

Alongside casino results, attention is shifting to sports betting as operators rushed to meet the September 12 licensing deadline. Penn Sports Interactive, which runs ESPN Bet, has submitted an online application and plans to connect its platform to Hollywood Casino and River City Casino.

So far, five online operators have applied. DraftKings and Circa Sports secured two of the state’s limited untethered licenses earlier this year. Other applicants include Caesars Sportsbook, FanDuel, Fanatics Sportsbook, and Underdog, each pursuing access through casino or pro sports partnerships.

Partnerships and Market Entry

• Caesars Sportsbook: applied for online and retail licenses via Harrah’s Kansas City and Horseshoe St. Louis.
• FanDuel: partnered with MLS club St. Louis City.
• Fanatics Sportsbook: aligned with Boyd Gaming’s Ameristar Casino properties.
• Underdog: also pursuing entry through local partnerships.

The Missouri Gaming Commission can issue up to 19 retail licenses and 14 online sportsbook licenses. With the launch date set for December 1, 2025, operators are positioning for a competitive start in what is expected to be a strong regional market.
