John Racener came into Day 3 of Event #19: $10,000 Limit Hold’em Championship at the 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas with the lowest chip count among the remaining 13 players. Th3 extremely competitive field included nine WSOP bracelet winners and a former champion. Despite the tough competition, Racener came out on top, securing his second gold bracelet and a first-place prize of $308,930.
“I am so blessed and grateful to be here,” Racener said after defeating Chad Eveslage, a 2023 bracelet winner and currently holding two WSOP bracelets, in the heads-up play to claim the victory. “I am just so happy to be out here, being able to play and grind.”
Racener credits his wife for much of his success this summer. She takes care of their two sons, allowing him to stay focused while on the road. He also paid tribute to his late mother, saying, “I know she is watching above me right now…she is happy as shit right now.” When Racener won his first bracelet in 2017 in the $10,000 Dealer’s Choice, he wore a shirt reading ‘for mom’ in her honor, expressing his deep desire to win for her. Today, he feels he has fulfilled that promise once again.
Racener is well-known for his runner-up finish in the 2010 WSOP main event, where he won over $5.5 million. His consistent performance at the summer series has made him a formidable player over the years.
This latest victory is a significant boost in Racener’s pursuit of the WSOP Player of the Year title. He nearly clinched this accolade in 2017, finishing second to Chris Ferguson. With this early win in the series, Racener sees a promising opportunity to achieve his goal. “It’s a huge start for me. Every day I’m in Vegas I’ll be playing,” he stated.
Despite his ambitions, Racener emphasized that family remains his top priority. “Being with my kids is the most important for me,” he said, underscoring the balance he maintains between his professional and personal life.
