BetMakers Ends Early Takeover Talks With Tabcorp

BetMakers Technology Group has addressed speculation surrounding a potential acquisition by Tabcorp, confirming that discussions occurred but ended at an early stage without a formal proposal.

Good to Know

  • BetMakers and Tabcorp held preliminary discussions that never advanced into a formal offer.
  • Commercial cooperation between both companies continues despite the halted talks.
  • BetMakers recently expanded operations through U.S. and Australian agreements alongside a Nevada acquisition.

BetMakers released a statement Wednesday acknowledging contact from Tabcorp and outlining the limited scope of engagement. Conversations focused on a possible change of control transaction but remained informal and exploratory. BetMakers said in a statement:

“BetMakers confirms that it was approached by Tabcorp and that preliminary and informal discussions have taken place regarding a potential change of control transaction. While those discussions were at an early stage and highlighted opportunities for BetMakers’ wagering technology products, no formal offer was received and discussions have ceased.

“BetMakers maintains an ongoing commercial relationship with Tabcorp, supplying wagering technology and content distribution services in support of Tabcorp’s racing and media operations.”

No public response has been issued by Tabcorp regarding either the original report from the Australian Financial Review or the subsequent clarification from BetMakers.

Strategic Interest Centered On Technology And Global Expansion

Sources familiar with the matter indicated that Tabcorp examined BetMakers as part of an effort to strengthen internal digital infrastructure and modernize wagering systems. Access to BetMakers platform technology formed a central part of that rationale, alongside potential operational synergies and support for international B2B ambitions.

Timing of the approach followed a period of active dealmaking by BetMakers. The company finalized acquisition of Las Vegas Dissemination Company in early 2026, adding a Nevada based gaming solutions supplier to its portfolio and expanding North American capabilities.

Additional momentum came from a renewed agreement with Penn Entertainment. A three year extension took effect in January, continuing a relationship that began in 2022 and reinforcing distribution of racing data and wagering services across U.S. channels.

Activity also continued in Australia, where BetMakers secured an arrangement to power the launch of CrownBet, a brand owned by Betfair Australia. Under that deal, BetMakers will provide its full wagering technology stack to support market entry.
