The 2025 Asian Poker Tour Championship main event delivered one of the most impressive performances of the year as India’s Nishant Sharma captured the $10,000 title in Taipei. A total of 671 entries pushed the prize pool above $6.2 million, far beyond the $5 million guarantee, and created a top prize of $1,184,985. The victory also earned Sharma the 24k gold lion trophy and the largest payout of his live career.
Good to Know
Sharma entered the final day with the biggest stack after four days of play inside the Red Space in Taipei. Only nine players remained, and several were high-profile names with major titles on their resumes. Before this event, Sharma’s top result on the live circuit had been $230,475 for 34th place in the 2018 World Series of Poker main event. With this newest result, his career earnings now approach $2 million.
The nine-handed final table delivered a long series of intense all-ins and dramatic swings. Early eliminations included Martin Finger and Matas Cimbolas, both falling in preflop confrontations. Several three-way clashes produced additional knockouts, and momentum shifted repeatedly as players exchanged pots. Sharma picked up key pots with both pairs and suited Broadway hands, surviving multiple high-pressure moments while maintaining his lead. Alexandru Papazian eliminated Dominik Nitsche before later entering an all-in confrontation that dropped him to the short stack, setting up his eventual exit.
Going heads-up, Sharma held a sizable advantage against John Costiniano. The decisive hand arrived when both players connected with the board, but a turn raise and a river card improved Sharma to a winning flush, securing the title and the seven-figure prize.
