Casino revenue in Maryland slipped in September 2025, according to data from the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency (MLGCA). The combined revenue from slot machines and table games reached 151.5 million dollars, marking a 5 percent drop compared with the same period last year.
Good to Know
The state received 64.9 million dollars in total contributions, down 10.7 percent from a year earlier. Allocations to the Maryland Education Trust Fund reached 46.8 million dollars during the month.
Across the first quarter of the 2026 fiscal year, covering July through September 2025, overall casino revenue fell by 3.1 percent, and state contributions declined by 2.3 percent. Beyond education, casino proceeds also support local infrastructure, community development, horseracing initiatives, and small business assistance programs.
MGM National Harbor remained the top-earning casino in the state, recording 63.2 million dollars in revenue, though that figure represented a 5.6 percent decrease compared with September 2024. Live Casino and Hotel followed with 54.9 million dollars, a 7.8 percent decline year over year.
Some properties recorded growth despite the overall slowdown. Horseshoe Casino Baltimore increased revenue by 6.7 percent to 14 million dollars, while Rocky Gap Casino Resort rose 5.1 percent to 4.6 million dollars.
On the other hand, Ocean Downs Casino dropped 3.8 percent to 8.4 million dollars, and Hollywood Casino Perryville fell 4.6 percent to 6.4 million dollars.
Together, MGM and Live generated approximately 78 percent of the total revenue from casinos in Maryland, confirming their dominance within the state’s gaming landscape.
The report arrived just before the start of the NFL season, traditionally one of the most active times for sportsbooks nationwide. Even with weaker casino figures, Maryland’s broader gambling industry continues to evolve, now home to 13 mobile sportsbooks and several new operator launches.
By contrast, neighboring Pennsylvania saw its total gaming revenue grow 11.4 percent in July 2025, driven largely by gains in iGaming and online casinos. August was even better for the neighboring state with $582 million in revenues in that month.
