Authorities in Brazil have exposed an elaborate illegal raffle network worth over BR33 million, allegedly operated by former military police officer turned influencer Kleverton “Kel” Ferreti. The investigation paints a picture of a social media figure who used his online fame to give credibility to manipulated raffles that misled thousands of participants.

Authorities say the scam blended social media influence with online deception. Ferreti used his large following to promote fake draws and lure users into paying for nonexistent prizes. His public image as a successful online businessman helped the operation thrive for months before being dismantled.

Investigators estimate that Ferreti earned more than BR400,000 in a single month through the raffles and through unregulated online courses that taught users “how to profit from betting.”

The Role of Influencers in the Scheme

One of the key names under investigation is influencer Laís Oliveira, who has more than five million followers. According to prosecutors, Oliveira and her husband played a central role in promoting the raffles and legitimizing Ferreti’s activities through high-profile online campaigns.

Financial records show that between January and April 2024, Oliveira received close to BR1 million from one of Ferreti’s companies. The payments, investigators allege, were tied to promotional services used to expand the reach of the fraudulent draws.

The collaboration between Ferreti and well-known online personalities helped the scheme reach a wide audience, especially among fans who viewed the influencers’ lavish lifestyles as proof of success in the digital economy.

Arrest, Charges, and Ongoing Legal Battles

Ferreti, expelled from the military police in 2023 for violating electoral law, was arrested earlier this year during a coordinated police operation. Officers seized jewellery, cash, and several mobile phones believed to contain digital evidence of the raffles.

He is currently serving an eight-year sentence for rape involving one of the individuals defrauded by the raffle scheme. Despite his criminal convictions, Ferreti remains active on social media and continues to appear in public under court-approved conditions.

In his defense, Ferreti’s legal team insists he never owned or operated any betting platforms, claiming his activities were limited to marketing and advertising services.
