Michigan’s online gambling and sports betting market is showing no signs of slowing down. The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) reported combined revenue of $312.5 million in August 2025, a 39.5% year-over-year increase.
Good to know
Most of the monthly revenue came from iGaming, which produced $263.3 million. That represented nearly 85% of the total market and showed how Michigan’s players continue to favor online slots and table games. Adjusted gross receipts for iGaming alone came in at $247.2 million, climbing 39.8% compared to August 2024.
Sportsbooks also had a big month. August revenue hit $49.2 million, up 67.5% from the same time last year. Bettors staked $338.9 million in wagers, a 21% rise. The handle also jumped 19.9% compared with July, suggesting that the return of college football and the NFL helped drive action back to the books.
Sports betting adjusted gross receipts landed at $34.2 million, almost double the $17.9 million recorded in August 2024.
Revenue growth meant more money flowing back to local and state governments. Tribal operators submitted $6.2 million in payments to their respective governing bodies, marking a 34.8% increase. Detroit’s three commercial casinos reported $13.8 million in wagering taxes and service fees during August.
Alongside the revenue report, regulators highlighted enforcement action. On August 14, the MGCB issued cease-and-desist orders to 15 unlicensed online gambling operators. The board cited violations of the Lawful Internet Gaming Act, the Gaming Control and Revenue Act, and provisions of the Michigan Penal Code.
