Online gambling in Wyoming has taken a sharp spotlight as regulators sound the alarm over illegal casino websites operating without proper oversight. While sports betting and fantasy sports are allowed under state law, real-money online casino games remain off-limits.
Good to know
- No online casino or iGaming site is licensed in Wyoming.
- The Commission warns users that any use of such sites is at their own risk.
- Most illegal operators are based outside the United States.
The Wyoming Gaming Commission recently issued a clear warning about unlicensed online gambling activity. Executive Director Nicholas Larramendy made it plain: no online casinos or sweepstakes sites are legally operating in the state. He said, “We want to make it unequivocally clear: no online casino, iGaming or sweepstakes site is licensed by the Wyoming Gaming Commission, and they are all operating illegally in Wyoming.”
He cautioned residents and visitors alike to steer clear of these platforms. Anyone choosing to participate does so with no support from the state. “The Wyoming Gaming Commission cannot provide assistance or intervention in cases of disputes regarding winnings, or other account issues arising from participation in illegal iGaming,” he said.
Many of these websites are based outside of the United States, which makes law enforcement difficult. Even when the Commission becomes aware of an illegal operator, shutting them down requires considerable effort, especially when those operations fall outside Wyoming’s jurisdiction.
Online gambling ads claiming to offer casino services in Wyoming are also on the Commission’s radar. Authorities urge people to be especially careful when interacting with these promotions. Some sites may appear legal or mimic licensed platforms, but they remain unauthorized.
Despite growing interest in online casino games like blackjack, slots, and roulette, current Wyoming laws do not permit these types of gambling. Only online sports betting and fantasy sports are approved under state regulation.
The Commission also mentioned that even certain sweepstakes or social casinos, if they offer cash payouts, may be operating in violation of Wyoming laws. These types of platforms often blur the line between entertainment and real-money gambling, which creates confusion among users.
Larramendy added that the Commission remains committed to protecting residents but warned that enforcement has its limits. “We will do our best to attempt to shut down the operation in our state when we become aware of an illegal operation,” he said.
