The casino sector in Atlantic City is embracing Problem Gambling Awareness Month by highlighting its dedication to responsible and safe gaming all month long. The program seeks to maintain New Jersey’s leadership in player protection by guaranteeing that gambling is always a fun and safe activity for everyone.
Casino Association of New Jersey (CANJ) President Mark Giannantonio reinforced this mission, stating, “Atlantic City’s casinos are committed to promoting responsible gaming. New Jersey has been at the forefront of casino gaming for many years, so we understand how critical this issue is to our industry, patrons, and the entire State of New Jersey.”
Industry Initiatives and Investments
Atlantic City casinos invest millions annually in responsible gaming programs and adhere to strict regulatory and testing standards. According to CANJ, several measures are in place across all properties to ensure player well-being:
- Funding for Support Programs: The industry contributes approximately $3.5 million in gaming taxes and fees to support organizations like the Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey, which provides treatment and prevention services.
- Promoting Awareness: Casinos actively advertise the 1-800-GAMBLER hotline to connect individuals with prevention, treatment, and recovery resources for gambling-related issues.
- Employee Training: Staff members receive specialized education to recognize signs of problem gambling and assist customers in seeking help.
- In-House Support Programs: Operators run internal responsible gaming programs for players exhibiting signs of gambling-related concerns.
- Responsible Marketing Practices: The industry ensures all advertising and promotions align with its commitment to responsible gambling.
The CANJ is also actively working with the Responsible Gaming Task Force, established by the Murphy Administration in 2024. This partnership aims to prevent underage gambling, encourage responsible play, and increase awareness of available assistance programs.
Giannantonio reaffirmed the industry’s dedication, stating, “Our goal as an industry has always been to create safe and enjoyable gambling experiences while minimizing the risk of harm to individuals and the broader community.”
By prioritizing responsible gaming, Atlantic City casinos continue to strengthen player protection while supporting the long-term sustainability of the industry.
