Snuneymuxw First Nation-owned Petroglyph Development Group (PDG) has completed the acquisition of two significant casino properties: Elements Casino Victoria and Casino Nanaimo. This calculated action, which was first declared in the middle of 2024, demonstrates the country’s dedication to long-term prosperity and economic empowerment.
Snuneymuxw Chief Mike Wyse highlighted the significance of the acquisitions, celebrating the hard work that paved the way for this achievement. “We celebrate the closing of our two casino acquisitions and our continued progress toward building a strong Snuneymuxw economy,” he stated. Chief Wyse also emphasized how this accomplishment honors the efforts of past leaders and strengthens the Nation for future generations.
Now, the purchased assets will support self-determination and the nation’s economic base. Chief Wyse thanked the B.C. Lottery Corporation, PDG, and Great Canadian Entertainment for their partnership, which he feels would propel prosperity in the province and the country.
Successful Partnership and Regulatory Approval
Authorities, including the B.C. Lottery Corporation and the Gaming Policy Enforcement Branch, granted regulatory permission for the transactions, which were initially announced on June 24 for Casino Nanaimo and September 10, 2024, for Elements Casino Victoria.
“Our corporate team, our on-site teams at both properties, and PDG have put in an incredible amount of work to achieve this successful closing,” said Matt Anfinson, CEO of Great Canadian Entertainment, who praised the commitment of all parties involved. He also praised the regulatory bodies’ hard work in making the procedure possible.
While the financial details of the acquisitions remain undisclosed, PDG CEO Ian Simpson underscored their transformative potential. “Acquiring these assets marks a pivotal shift for Snuneymuxw and Vancouver Island. This transition will fuel the Island’s economy, strengthening the Snuneymuxw Nation and ensuring the benefits stay local,” Simpson noted.
With these acquisitions, the Snuneymuxw First Nation is poised to strengthen its economic foundation while fostering local economic growth and community benefits.
