In response to BlockDance BV’s unlicensed games of chance, the Dutch Gaming Authority (KSA) has taken legal action. The KSA has imposed a penalty payment on BlockDance to ensure that they stop their illegal activities. According to Dutch law, it is strictly prohibited to provide gambling services without the proper licensing.
BlockDance Violations and Penalty
KSA’s investigation revealed that BlockDance had been offering illegal games on two websites, bc.game and bcgame.lu. Initially, after the KSA’s intervention, BlockDance blocked Dutch players from accessing these sites. As a result, the KSA initially decided not to impose any fines. However, further monitoring showed that the sites became accessible again to Dutch users, prompting the KSA to issue an order.
BlockDance now faces a steep penalty if it fails to comply within four weeks. The company must permanently stop offering games of chance in the Netherlands, or they will incur a weekly penalty of €280,000, with a maximum of €840,000.
The websites under investigation allowed Dutch players to create accounts, deposit money, and participate in illegal games. The sites lacked measures to block Dutch users from accessing the services. The KSA actively monitors illegal gambling operations to protect players within the regulated market.
“With an order subject to penalty, illegal supply is often quickly stopped,” states the KSA, emphasizing that penalties help to deter illegal operators from continuing their activities. If violations persist, additional fines may be imposed on providers for the duration of their illegal operations.
The Dutch government’s stringent approach to regulating gambling aims to safeguard players and maintain a legal and fair gaming environment. The KSA remains vigilant in monitoring the market and addressing violations swiftly.
