DraftKings Fined $19,000 in Connecticut for Slot Game Glitch

DraftKings has been fined $19,000 by Connecticut authorities following a glitch in the slot game “Deal or No Deal Banker’s Bonanza,” which left 522 players without any wins. The game, developed by White Hat Gaming, was found to have a computer error that set the winning odds to zero, making it impossible for players to win despite spinning over 20,000 times.

The glitch first came to light when several players filed complaints, prompting an internal investigation by DraftKings. The investigation confirmed the issue and revealed that the error was specific to the Connecticut launch of the game. A spokesperson for DraftKings explained, “The error resulted from a mistake by the game’s developer,” emphasizing that it was limited to this particular game and launch.

Delayed Reporting and Consequences

While DraftKings refunded a total of $23,909 to the affected players, the company faced criticism for not reporting the glitch to the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) immediately. The report to the DCP came a week after the error was discovered, which contributed to the $19,000 fine. White Hat Gaming, the developer responsible for the game, was also fined $3,500 for their role in the glitch.

DraftKings has since assured customers that they have implemented strong measures to prevent similar issues in the future. “Our customers’ satisfaction and the integrity of our products are central to our success,” the company stated. “We have robust measures to monitor potential payout issues and we investigate any concerns promptly. In the event of a game not functioning as intended, we ensure impacted customers are appropriately refunded.”

This incident underscores the importance of prompt reporting and transparency in the gaming industry, as well as the need for rigorous checks to ensure game integrity.
