Massachusetts Gaming Commission Reports June Revenue and Betting Figures

The financial report for June, which includes revenue from physical casino facilities as well as online and retail sports wagering, has been released by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC). At the moment, Plainridge Park Casino, Encore Boston Harbor, and MGM Springfield are the three land-based casinos in Massachusetts.

The gross gaming revenue (GGR) produced by these casinos combined was $96.1 million in June. With about $60.4 million in sales, Encore Boston Harbor was in the lead. With $21.9 million, MGM Springfield came in second, and Plainridge Park Casino provided $13.8 million.

Sports Wagering Analysis

Despite a loss of nearly $600,000 in retail sports wagering GGR, online sports betting proved profitable, bringing in just over $41 million. The total combined GGR for sports wagering reached nearly $40.5 million. Massachusetts reports figures for six online sports betting operators: DraftKings, BetMGM, Caesars, FanDuel, Fanatics, and ESPN Bet.

Online sports betting saw a handle of $500.7 million in June, with an additional $8.6 million from retail locations. DraftKings and FanDuel were the top performers, with DraftKings reporting a handle of $263.7 million and FanDuel at $141.4 million. BetMGM, ESPN Bet, Fanatics, and Caesars sportsbook followed with handles of $34 million, $21.8 million, $20.2 million, and just under $20.2 million, respectively.

For all three casinos, the most important source of income was slot machines. $25.5 million was made from table games and $34.9 million from slots at Encore Boston Harbor. Slot machines at MGM Springfield brought in $17.5 million, while table games brought in $4.4 million. The $13.8 million in revenue reported above is for Plainridge Park Casino, which solely has slots.

$509.5 million was the total handle for sports betting in June, a small decrease from $587.3 million in May. This decline can be ascribed to the NBA and NHL playoffs coming to an end, which leaves MLB and soccer as the main American sports.
