The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) is set for a major leadership change with Charles Mizzi taking over as the new CEO, succeeding Carl Brincat. The transition is scheduled for January 26, 2024, following a detailed selection process that began with a public call on October 30, 2023.
Charles Mizzi, who previously led the Residency Malta Agency for five years, is recognized for significantly enhancing Malta’s stature as a leading residency by investment jurisdiction. His dynamic approach and extensive experience in operations management have earned him high regard. The MGA Board of Governors regards these attributes as crucial for the Authority’s future, expecting Mizzi to continue the solid work of his predecessor and the existing team.
Before officially taking charge, Mizzi will spend several years closely observing Brincat’s work. This step is aimed at ensuring a seamless leadership transition. Mizzi expressed his gratitude for this opportunity, stating, “I am honored to have been given the opportunity to lead the MGA. I am keen to build on past successes and, together with the team under the guidance of the Minister responsible and the Board of Governors, to strategically steer the Authority forward so that Malta’s already robust position in the field may be further strengthened, while delivering value to all stakeholders.”
Carl Brincat’s departure was announced in October, a decision he described as not easy. The MGA’s shift in leadership comes at a time of ongoing evolution in the gaming sector.
Silvio Schembri, Malta’s Minister for the Economy, EU Funds, and Lands, acknowledged Brincat’s exceptional service and welcomed Mizzi, highlighting his vast operational experience and contribution to major projects. He confidently stated, “Charles Mizzi is undoubtedly the right candidate to continue building on what the MGA has achieved so far.”
