A home victory of epic proportions was witnessed at the APT Summer Series Hanoi, Vietnam 2023 Main Event. The newly revamped summer series tournament saw Dinh Duc Linh, a Vietnamese native, grasp his first major poker title after 4 days of play.
The Showdown at the Grand Loyal Poker Club
Nestled within the sophisticated Grand Vista Hanoi Hotel, the Grand Loyal Poker Club played host to the gripping final round of the VND 35,000,000 Main Event. As the fourth and final day dawned, only nine contestants out of the original 581 entrants remained in contention for the prominent golden lion APT Main Event trophy and a share of the VND 17,752,455,000 (~USD $759,340) prize pool.
After battling through eight 60-minute levels, spanning 194 hands of poker, it was Linh who reigned supreme.
A Career-Changing Win
Fighting off a significant chip disadvantage, Linh managed to outlast the tournament favorite and chip leader at the start of the day, Akshay Nasa. Their rigorous heads-up duel comprised sixty-one hands, stretching over two 60-minute levels.
Linh’s win got him with a record prize of VND 3,401,355,000 (USD $145,500), simultaneously denying Nasa his second Main Event title. Despite being the runner-up, Nasa pocketed an impressive VND 2,116,100,000 ($90,510), the largest single win of his career to date, promoting him to the #16 spot on the India All Time Money List.
Linh’s grand win significantly multiplied his live tournament winnings, propelling his career earnings over $200,000 and advancing his ranking from #135 to #36 on the Vietnam All Time Money List.
A Word from the Champion
A wave of emotion washed over Linh following his landmark victory. He expressed his gratitude, “I want to say thank you to my family, my friends here, and my backers.” He further commented on his intense competition, “My competitor was a really strong competitor. I’d also like to thank APT for bringing the festival to Hanoi. I’m spent right now, I’m overwhelmed.”
