In an exciting development for the Las Vegas Strip, top executives from two famous casino destinations, the Rio and Fontainebleau, have revealed their plans for upgrades and future growth. These properties are scheduled to launch in December 2023. The Nevada Gaming Control Board has independently recommended gaming licenses for both casinos, with final approvals due on July 27, 2023, by the Nevada Gaming Commission.
The Rio, which Dreamscape Companies Inc. purchased from Caesars Entertainment Inc. in 2019, is set to undergo a $350 million renovation. The redevelopment will feature the 2,500-room resort, the casino, and several other attractions. The reconstruction will take place in two stages, with the first beginning in August 2023 and lasting 18 months. The Ipanema Tower’s 1,500 rooms, the entire casino floor, and the 150,000-square-foot pool area will be renovated during this phase. The 1,000-room Masquerade Tower and related outlets will be the focus of the second phase. Furthermore, the popular buffets will be replaced by a food court idea, and Dreamscape will launch a new reward program in collaboration with Hyatt Hotels to attract convention business.
The Fontainebleau property, which was built in 2007 and was later purchased by its original developer, Jeffrey Soffer, in 2021, is poised to become a significant presence on the Strip. A 67-story resort with 3,644 rooms, including 421 suites, will be built with a $3.9 billion investment. The ground floor casino will be 150,000 square feet and will have 1,300 slot machines, 128 table games, a sportsbook, and six private gaming salons. The second floor will include a retail promenade, spa, and fitness center, and the third floor will include a pool. Fontainebleau will also have 36 first-to-market restaurant concepts, 550,000 square feet of conference space, a 3,800-seat concert and event theater, and other large facilities.
The Nevada Gaming Control Board has recommended that the executives in charge of both the Rio and the Fontainebleau receive licenses. The Rio is seeking clearance from Dreamscape Companies Inc. executives Eric Birnbaum and Thomas Ellis, while the Fontainebleau is awaiting approval from Bowtie Hospitality LLC executives Jeffrey Soffer and Brett Mufson. The Nevada Gaming Commission will issue final licensing permits on July 27, 2023, letting these projects to proceed.
The Rio and Fontainebleau are on schedule to open their doors to the public in December 2023, thanks to licensing approvals and final regulatory clearances. These developments represent huge investments on the Las Vegas Strip and are expected to add to the city’s thriving gaming and hospitality scene.
