Bally Bet Canada and Monopoly Casino and Sportsbook have gained approval to operate in the regulated Alberta iGaming market. Both brands can now join a growing lineup of online casinos and sportsbooks after the provincial market opened on July 13, 2026.
Good to Know
The latest approvals give Bally two different routes into Alberta. Bally Bet combines online sports betting and casino games, while Monopoly Casino uses branding and game content based on the well-known board game.
Monopoly Casino launched in 2016 and already operates in Ontario. Its catalogue includes Monopoly-themed slots, live dealer games, bingo and other casino titles.
Bally gained control of the platform through its acquisition of Gamesys. The wider Bally group also runs online gaming products and 20 land-based casinos across 11 US states.
Both Alberta brands accepted pre-registrations before the regulated market opened. Their addition follows a launch that began with 22 approved gaming sites on July 13. Every approved site must provide age checks, deposit limits, time controls and self-exclusion tools.
The Alberta iGaming Corporation directory includes major brands such as bet365, BetMGM, BetRivers, Caesars, DraftKings, FanDuel, Sports Interaction and theScore Bet. Several companies operate separate casino and sportsbook sites, meaning the number of websites differs from the number of parent operators.
Alberta became the second Canadian province to open a competitive online gambling system after Ontario launched its model in April 2022.
However, Alberta enters the sector with a clear channelization problem. Provincial estimates indicate that around 70% of local online gambling previously took place through unregulated platforms. AiGC aims to transfer 75% of that activity into the regulated market during its first two years.
“Right now, roughly 70% of online gaming in the province happens on unregulated sites,” AiGC previously said. “Our main goal is to transition players to a secure, locally governed market equipped with responsible gaming tools.”
Operators must also follow advertising rules designed to limit exposure among minors, self-excluded players and vulnerable groups. Bonus advertising can only appear on approved gaming websites or through direct marketing accepted by the customer.
Ontario provides a useful comparison for Alberta. During the financial year ending March 31, 2025, Ontario players wagered $82.7 billion and generated $2.9 billion in gaming revenue. Both totals rose by more than 30% from the previous year.
More Alberta launches remain likely. Registration and final approval are separate stages, so some companies can enter the regulatory process without immediately opening a sportsbook or online casino.
