Ontario regulator AGCO has fined Score Media and Gaming Inc. $200,000 after theScore Bet displayed two large cash out offers that a customer could not actually redeem.
The case involved a $1,000 parlay placed on March 14, 2025 across NHL, NBA and college basketball games. A full win would have returned more than $1 million.
Good to Know
Most legs of the parlay had already won when theScore Bet displayed a cash out value of about $380,000.
The customer accepted it immediately. However, an automated verification process rejected the transaction because the underlying odds had changed.
Around four minutes later, the platform displayed another cash out offer worth just under $100,000. The customer tried again, but the transaction failed despite the offer remaining visible.
The final parlay leg then lost, leaving the customer with no return from the bet.
AGCO later concluded that neither cash out amount was genuinely available under the conditions shown to the player.
Dr. Karin Schnarr, AGCO Chief Executive Officer and Registrar, said:
“Operators have a responsibility to ensure that the gaming opportunities they present are accurate and can be honoured as described.”
She added:
“As the regulator, the AGCO is committed to holding operators accountable when they fail to uphold commitments made to players or otherwise mislead them about gaming opportunities. By imposing the maximum monetary penalty available, we are sending a clear message that these expectations are not optional.”
AGCO linked the case to Standard 4.07 of the Registrar Standards for Internet Gaming. The rule requires information shown before and during gambling sessions to remain accurate and not mislead players about available outcomes, prizes or offers.
The $200,000 penalty represents the maximum monetary penalty available under the applicable framework, according to AGCO. Score Media and Gaming Inc. can request a hearing before the Licence Appeal Tribunal within 15 days.
Ontario launched its regulated private iGaming market in April 2022. theScore Bet joined from day one and remains listed as a regulated casino and sports betting site operated by Score Media and Gaming Inc.
AGCO did not say whether the customer later received compensation, a refund or another payment. The regulator also noted that enforcement action remains separate from any dispute process available to players.
“Ensuring that players can have confidence in the honesty and integrity of igaming sites is fundamental to Ontario’s regulated igaming market,” the announcement read. “This robust regulatory framework offers Ontarians a safer alternative to unregulated gambling sites that lack comparable safeguards.”
theScore Bet later entered Alberta when the regulated Alberta iGaming market opened on July 13, 2026.
AGCO found that theScore Bet displayed cash out offers that the customer could not redeem as presented.
The first offer was about $380,000. A second offer appeared roughly four minutes later at just under $100,000.
The customer wagered $1,000 on a multi leg parlay with a potential return of more than $1 million.
Score Media and Gaming Inc. can request a hearing before the Licence Appeal Tribunal within 15 days.
