Jianfeng Sun returned to the top of the APT Jeju Main Event two years after finishing runner up, taking his first Asian Poker Tour Main Event title and KRW 427.565 million, around $319,080.
The Chinese player entered the final day as chip leader and completed the job against Steve Ng heads up at LES A Casino.
Good to Know
Sun had already come close at APT Jeju. He finished second in the same Main Event two years earlier, but said that result did not weigh heavily on him when he returned in 2026.
“Over the past two years, I’ve played in many tournaments, so that past loss didn’t actually leave a deep impression on me. Back then, I entered heads-up with a very short stack… so I didn’t feel it was much of a regret to lose. But this time, I really wanted to win, especially since I entered the final table as the chip leader. On the very first hand, when my A-K eliminated K-K, I felt like luck was on my side today, and I thought, ‘Could today be my day?’ I had that feeling at the time,” Sun told APT staff.
He added: “I feel I’ve made some progress over the past two years, especially in my mindset and my grasp of table dynamics compared to two years ago; I can feel the improvement myself.”
The result also represented the largest live tournament cash of his career.
APT Jeju ran from September 25 through October 7 at LES A Casino, with the Main Event carrying a KRW 2.7 million buy in. The final prize pool finished more than KRW 1 billion above the original guarantee.
Sun started the final day with 12.06 million chips and quickly added to his lead when ace king beat the pocket kings of Shuang Qiu. Steve Ng later eliminated Kwang Chung Tan in third after an ace on the turn put Ng ahead, giving Ng the chip lead for heads up play. Sun recovered, took control and built a lead of more than four to one. On the final hand, Ng called all in with king ten against ace four, but neither player improved and Sun won with ace high. A heads up deal meant Ng received KRW 449.115 million, around $335,160, while Sun took the trophy and KRW 427.565 million.
Toby Joyce finished fourth for around $124,455, followed by Weimin Chen, Jiawei Wan, Erdun Xu and Shuang Qiu. Kwang Chung Tan earned about $168,045 for third.
