  • New owners or operators could keep some properties open.

Eight Maverick Casinos Face November Closure

The latest notices cover Great American Casino in Everett, All Star Casino in Silverdale, Casino Caribbean in Yakima, Crazy Moose Casino in Pasco and Coyote Bobs Casino in Kennewick.

Three Lakewood properties also appear on the list, including Chip’s Casino, Macau Casino and Palace Casino.

Maverick Washington told the Washington Employment Security Department that the closures are not certain. A sale or operator change during bankruptcy proceedings could keep individual casinos open.

“Maverick Washington LLC is currently subject to a bankruptcy proceeding and, as part of that proceeding, there could be a potential change of operator and/or owner for the site,” Human Resources Director Christine Wisniewski said.

“If the site is transitioned to a new owner/operator, the above-referenced closure may not occur, or alternatively, the closure could be delayed. We will provide updated information to you in the event that occurs.”

The September 28 WARN notices add another large group of jobs to the reductions already announced across the Maverick Washington portfolio.

Earlier in September, Maverick announced plans to close Great American Casino and Riverside Casino in Tukwila. Those closures affect another 238 workers, including dealers, bartenders, cooks, cashiers and management staff.

Maverick also disclosed layoffs affecting 188 positions across SeaTac, Bothell and Mountlake Terrace during the summer. Five locations have closed since April.

Bankruptcy Reshapes Maverick Washington Portfolio

Maverick Gaming entered Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in July 2025 after restructuring debt in 2024. Court filings listed assets and liabilities between $100 million and $500 million.

Chief Restructuring Officer Jeff Seery cited competition from tribal casinos, operational problems and wider industry conditions among factors behind the bankruptcy.

Washington regulations also create a clear difference between commercial cardrooms and tribal casinos. Commercial cardrooms can operate no more than 15 tables. Sports wagering remains restricted to tribal casinos operating under amended Class III gaming compacts.

Maverick has argued for years that those rules leave commercial cardrooms at a disadvantage. The company previously challenged the state structure around tribal sports betting and sought broader gaming options for commercial properties.

Maverick also criticized a Washington Gaming Commission decision involving centralized surveillance.

“This decision follows the Washington Gaming Commissioners’ choice to shut down the centralized surveillance petition, which was intended to support Washington Cardrooms,” Maverick Gaming said.

“In the decision considerations, the gaming board compared Washington cardroom casinos (15 tables) to mega casinos that attract higher volumes of traffic, impacting our operations. The lack of centralized and advanced surveillance technology, in contrast to what is available in larger establishments, has further hindered our ability to compete effectively.”

Some workers affected by the latest notices belong to Teamsters Local 117.

Secretary-Treasurer Paul Dascher said many Maverick properties “have changed hands during this process and several other facilities will either close or change hands in the coming months.”

“Teamsters across the state that represent workers employed by Maverick are doing all they can to make sure our members get treated fairly during these difficult times.”
