PowerPlay Sportsbook has gone live in Alberta, adding another operator to the regulated online sports betting market that opened on July 13, 2026.
Good to Know
Competition has grown quickly since Alberta opened its regulated iGaming market in July. AGLC says operators must complete registration with the regulator and enter a commercial agreement with Alberta iGaming Corporation before offering regulated online gambling.
PowerPlay now joins that field as the NHL season gets underway for the Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames and the CFL approaches its postseason.
The operator brings previous Canadian regulated market experience. PowerPlay entered Ontario in 2022 and had already confirmed plans earlier in 2026 to offer sports betting and online casino gaming in Alberta.
Marketing Director Thomas Vermeulen said the product was designed specifically for Canadian users:
“PowerPlay was built for Canadian players from day one. Rather than adapting an existing international product for the Canadian market, we designed our platform around the needs, expectations and preferences of Canadian users.”
The Alberta launch places PowerPlay against some of the largest sports betting brands in Canada, including FanDuel, DraftKings and BetMGM. Stake and Betway Canada have also joined the province market as operators compete for customers during the first months of regulated private iGaming.
AGLC now lists dozens of registered iGaming operators and gaming suppliers in Alberta. The regulator handles oversight, while Alberta iGaming Corporation manages areas including commercial agreements, financial reporting and anti money laundering requirements.
