Betway Goes Live In Alberta Regulated iGaming Market

Betway has joined Alberta regulated iGaming market with both sports betting and online casino products. Golden Tiger Casino has also joined the Alberta iGaming Corporation operating list.

Betway Returns To North American Expansion

The Alberta entry gives Super Group another regulated North American market after the company reduced its US operations.

Betway began leaving US sportsbook markets in 2024 after Super Group concluded that it could not see a long term path to sportsbook profitability there. Super Group kept selected US online casino operations while focusing resources elsewhere.

Betway now takes a different route in Alberta. Alberta iGaming Corporation lists Betway alongside more than 30 regulated sports betting and online casino offerings, including DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, bet365 and Caesars. Golden Tiger Casino also appears on the current registered site directory.

The launch also fits the wider Super Group international strategy. Betway operates across Europe, Africa and the Americas, while Super Group says its brands hold licenses in more than 20 jurisdictions.

Super Group CEO Neal Menashe previously explained the company approach after its US retrenchment:

“We therefore intend to focus capital and resources on markets where we see the greatest opportunity for scalable, sustainable, profitable super growth, with a disciplined emphasis on operational efficiency.”

Alberta Market Keeps Adding Operators

Alberta became the second Canadian province after Ontario to open a competitive regulated online gambling market.

The province launched the framework on July 13 after estimating that around 70% of online gambling activity had previously gone through unregulated platforms. Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis regulates operators, while Alberta iGaming Corporation manages the market.

Under the Alberta iGaming model, operators receive 80% of net iGaming revenue. Alberta retains 20%, while additional allocations support First Nations and social responsibility programs.

Super Group also registered Spin Casino through Cadtree, although Spin Casino does not appear on the current Alberta operating directory. Stake has also been working toward entry into the province.
