BetRivers has opened in the regulated Alberta iGaming market with an online casino, sportsbook and a record sized promotion at West Edmonton Mall. A 4.88 metre slot machine now anchors a public campaign that will run through December.
Good to Know
Rather than limit the campaign to online advertising, Rush Street Interactive brought its casino product into one of the busiest public venues in Edmonton.
A four week construction project produced the 4.88 metre machine at West Edmonton Mall. Guinness World Records adjudicator Tina Shi confirmed the record during a July 17 event hosted by Canadian broadcaster and BetRivers ambassador Dan O’Toole.
Visitors aged 18 or older can use the working machine or take part in a gold panning game. One available prize is a gold bar valued at C$6,000, equal to about US$4,259. The western themed experience will remain open until the end of December.
Rush Street Interactive CMO Brian Sapp said: “Entertainment is infused into everything we do, and this record and activation are the latest examples of that. Whether you are taking the world’s largest slot machine for a spin or interacting with the exclusive slot titles on our platform, we focus on making every moment entertaining and rewarding.”
BetRivers plans to take the giant slot concept to other North American casino markets after the Alberta campaign.

BetRivers began accepting Alberta registrations and wagers on July 13 through its website and mobile app. The launch placed Rush Street Interactive among the first private operators to enter the new provincial online gambling framework.
Online slots form the main theme across the campaign. Television, radio, digital media, outdoor advertising, sponsored articles and influencer partnerships feature Dan O’Toole and a western concept designed for Alberta players.
Sports betting remains part of the platform, though the record attempt gives online casino gaming the main role. Rush Street Interactive CEO Richard Schwartz said the slots first model had worked well for BetRivers in other markets and shaped the Alberta introduction.
The Alberta opening adds another Canadian province for BetRivers as Rush Street Interactive develops its regulated casino and sportsbook business across North America.
