Online Casinos Deliver Most Gaming Tax Revenue

Internet gaming produced $60.4 million in state taxes during June. Atlantic City casinos contributed $18.9 million, while sports betting added $12.4 million.

The 28 active online casino brands generated $271 million, around $5 million below the May record. The total exceeded revenue from the nine Atlantic City casinos by 5.4%.

FanDuel Casino led the online market with $62.5 million, up 17.2%. DraftKings Casino followed with $47.1 million, while BetMGM reached $35.4 million.

Through June, New Jersey internet gaming revenue rose 15%. Atlantic City casino revenue increased only 2.3% over the same period.

Atlantic City Table Games Weigh on June Total

Slot revenue rose 1.7% to $186 million, but table game revenue fell 6.4% to $71.3 million.

Borgata remained the largest physical casino despite a 5.9% drop to $72.2 million. Hard Rock generated $46.2 million, while Ocean reported $43.5 million.

Harrah, Tropicana and Caesars all recorded growth. Bally, Golden Nugget and Resorts posted declines.

New Jersey Casino Control Commission Chair James Plousis said June still ranked as the second-highest June casino result in 14 years.

“Through the first half of 2026, casino win eclipsed $1.4 billion faster than any year since 2012, and with the help of statewide online gaming and sports wagering, total gaming revenue reached $3.5 billion sooner than any other year,” Plousis stated.

Atlantic City operators invested nearly $200 million in property upgrades before the summer season. They also face future competition from three planned New York City casinos in Queens and the Bronx.

Betting handle rose 16%, but operators retained only 6.2% of wagers. The year-to-date hold rate stood at 8.9%.

New York Knicks NBA championship success helped bettors and reduced operator revenue in both New Jersey and New York.

For the first half of 2026, betting handle fell almost 10%, or $386.3 million. Sportsbook revenue reached $917.2 million, down 7.1%.
