Macau collected MOP51.19 billion ($6.33 billion) in gaming taxes during the first half of 2026, up 13.1% from a year earlier. Casino payments supplied nearly 88% of government current revenue.
Good to Know
Macau expects gaming tax income of MOP92.53 billion in 2026. The first-half result already covers more than half of that forecast, with six months still remaining.
June collections rose 13.3% from MOP7.65 billion in May to MOP8.67 billion, or about $1.07 billion.
Gaming taxes accounted for MOP51.19 billion of the MOP58.42 billion in current government revenue recorded through June. The 87.6% share shows that public finances remain closely tied to casino performance, despite efforts to build tourism and non-gaming industries. Macau has historically depended on gaming for most fiscal income.
Macau applies an effective 40% tax rate to casino gross gaming revenue under the 10-year concession system introduced on January 1, 2023.
However, monthly casino GGR and tax receipts do not match directly. Operators record gaming revenue before the government receives and logs the related tax payments, creating a timing gap between both sets of figures.
Higher tax collections also helped Macau post a fiscal surplus of MOP13.28 billion for the first six months, up 14.7% year on year.
