Powerball tickets will reach UK National Lottery players on July 21, with the first eligible draw taking place in UK time on July 23.
Good to Know
Allwyn UK and the Multi-State Lottery Association have linked Britain to the Powerball jackpot pool without creating a separate draw.
UK ticket sales will feed the same top prize as US entries. However, lower prize tiers remain separate. Britain also gains an exclusive £8 prize for matching two main numbers and a fixed £1 million award for matching all five main numbers without the Powerball.
Players choose five numbers from 1 to 69 and one Powerball from 1 to 26. Jackpot odds remain about one in 292.2 million. US ticket prices, odds and draw nights will not change.
The official US draw falls on Wednesday, July 22, but takes place at about 4am on Thursday, July 23 in Britain. That time difference explains the two dates used in official launch material.
Powerball jackpots start at £12 million for UK players and have no cap. Allwyn said the jackpot stood near $416 million when it announced the launch, although UK and US advertised totals are not directly comparable because of tax and payment treatment.
Cross-border lottery pools are not new. US states began combining ticket sales during the 1980s, while European countries later built games including Vikinglotto and EuroMillions.
The unusual part is the link between two different regulatory systems. US Powerball operates through state lotteries, while Britain uses one licensed National Lottery operator under Gambling Commission oversight.
Allwyn therefore had to combine a US jackpot contribution model with UK consumer rules, local prize tiers, tax calculations and good-cause funding. UK winners will receive the advertised jackpot through an annuity paid over 30 years.
Allwyn expects Powerball to generate about £1 billion for UK Good Causes during its first five years. More than 30% of each UK ticket price will support British projects, while US ticket proceeds continue supporting programs in the jurisdiction where each ticket is sold.
Rebecca Paul, President and CEO of the Tennessee Lottery, said:
“This next step brings us closer to a thrilling milestone for Powerball. More players means faster-growing jackpots, more excitement and even greater impact for the communities we serve.”
