Liu Turns Early Lead Into Bracelet

Liu recorded his first WSOP cash with a 21st place finish in a $600 Deepstack event shortly before entering Event #85. He then finished Day 1 of the $1,000 tournament as chip leader, with only 53 players left from the original field.

Few established names survived into Day 2. Former bracelet winners Greg Merson and Lukas Pazma exited in 32nd and 26th, while Mukul Pahuja and Tony Ruberto also fell before the final table.

Liu kept control through much of the closing session and gained a key pot with five players left. His K♠Q♥ beat the pocket threes of Tyler Phillips after a king landed on the flop. Anthony Lasala and Jeffery Rozier later departed, leaving Liu against Justin Shiao for the bracelet.

The final hand ended on a 10♦8♣7♥4♣ board. Liu held 8♦4♦ for two pair, while Shiao had Q♣9♣ and could win with a straight or club. The 8♥ river instead gave Liu a full house and ended the tournament.
