Tim Miller To Leave Gambling Commission After 10 Years

Tim Miller will leave the UK Gambling Commission in September after 10 years with the UK regulator. He will move into international advisory work with governments, regulators, and organisations focused on regulated gambling markets.

Good to know

  • Miller joined the UK Gambling Commission in 2016.
  • He currently serves as executive director for policy and research.
  • His exit follows Andrew Rhodes leaving the CEO role in February.

Senior Change Continues At UK Regulator

The Gambling Commission confirmed Miller will remain in post until September. The regulator said it will announce details on who will take over his responsibilities at a later date.

Miller announced the next step on LinkedIn on Monday.

“I am now looking forward to working for myself,” Miller posted.

“This is going to include working internationally with a number of governments, regulators and organisations that are focused on supporting the development of well-regulated and competitive markets.”

His exit adds another senior change at the Gambling Commission. Andrew Rhodes stepped down as CEO in February and later joined new industry consultancy Hawkbridge.

Rhodes said at the time: “it has been a privilege to lead the Gambling Commission through such an important period of change. I leave with confidence in the organisation, its people and the work still to come.”

Policy Work Shaped UK Gambling Reform

Miller helped lead several major policy and research projects during a busy period for UK gambling regulation. His work included the Gambling Survey for Great Britain, plus parts of the Gambling Act review and the government white paper process.

He also worked on reforms covering age verification, financial vulnerability checks, remote game design, and direct marketing rules. Those areas remain central to how the UK regulates online gambling operators, safer gambling duties, and consumer protection.

In a statement posted by the commission, Miller said:

“I have worked at the commission longer than anywhere else during my career and have found it the most rewarding and fulfilling role.”

Sarah Gardner, interim chief executive of the Gambling Commission, thanked Miller for his work.

“Tim has provided outstanding service to the commission for ten years. I would like to thank Tim for his significant contribution to gambling regulation and wish him every success in the future.”
