New Casino Del Sol Tucson Property Gets November 15 Opening

Casino Del Sol, Vahi Taaʼam will open on November 15, 2026, in Tucson, giving the Pascua Yaqui Tribe a third gaming property in Southern Arizona.

Good to know

  • The 163,000 square foot casino sits at 1055 W. Grant Road near Interstate 10.
  • Vahi Taaʼam means “Three Suns” in Yoeme, the language of the Pascua Yaqui people.
  • The project should create nearly 500 jobs.

Vahi Taaʼam Brings Casino Del Sol To Grant Road

The new Casino Del Sol property will open on Old Pascua Community land, a detail the tribe has placed at the center of the project. The property will operate under Casino Del Sol, the resort enterprise owned and operated by the Pascua Yaqui Tribe.

The name Vahi Taaʼam, pronounced vah-hee tah-ahm, refers to light and a bright future for the community, the tribe and guests. The property also gives Casino Del Sol a stronger position in Tucson, near Interstate 10 and closer to the city core.

Tribal gaming has long served as a major economic tool for Native American communities in Arizona. For the Pascua Yaqui Tribe, the new casino connects that business role with cultural identity and local hiring.

“Every design choice, every partnership, every hire – all of it flows from the same source: our culture, our people, and our responsibility to the Tucson community we have called home for generations,” said Julian Hernandez, Chairman of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe.

“Casino Del Sol, Vahi Taaʼam is built on Old Pascua Community land, and it carries that meaning with it. November 15 cannot come soon enough.”

Copper Dome And Desert Design Define The Project

A 26-foot copper dome will serve as the main visual feature of Casino Del Sol, Vahi Taaʼam. Drivers on Interstate 10 will be able to see it, while its design nods to the sun rising over the desert and to Arizona copper history.

Inside, the casino will use vaulted domed ceilings, patterned terrazzo tile, wood accents, archways and rustic ironwork. Tucson artist Joe Pagac will create a 24,000 square foot mural across the interior dome ceiling. The mural will show an Arizona desert sky, with lighting that changes from midday tones to the amber color of a Sonoran sunset.

Casino Del Sol said the design reflects the Sonoran Desert and Pascua Yaqui heritage rather than a standard casino build. The property also adds dining, gaming and hospitality jobs at a time when Tucson continues to draw more leisure and entertainment investment.

“Casino Del Sol, Vahi Taaʼam is more than a new property – it is a declaration of what the Pascua Yaqui Tribe stands for: a future as bright as the three suns its name evokes,” said Amanda Sampson Lomayesva, Interim CEO of Casino Del Sol.

“We look forward to opening these doors, to welcoming the nearly 500 people who will work within these walls, and to bringing this experience to the heart of Tucson.”
