Netflix Names Cast for Las Vegas Casino Drama ‘The Roman’

Netflix has confirmed the main cast for The Roman, an eight-episode drama set inside the modern Las Vegas casino business.

Good to Know

  • Oscar Isaac will play Robert “Bobby Red” Redman, a top hotel casino executive.
  • Martin Scorsese is producing the series after his 1995 casino classic Casino.
  • Rounders creators Brian Koppelman and David Levien will run the Netflix project.

Netflix Puts The Roman Inside Modern Las Vegas Casino Power

Netflix is returning to Las Vegas gambling drama with The Roman, and the cast gives the project a strong casino-film link. Oscar Isaac leads the series as Robert “Bobby Red” Redman, while Betty Gilpin, Alec Baldwin, and David Costabile also join the lineup.

The story centers on present-day Las Vegas rather than the mob-era setting of Casino. Netflix described the hour-long drama as set in the “high-stakes, sharp-elbowed present-day Las Vegas casino business, which is a modernized but still dangerous version of the legendary city.”

Isaac will play a hotel casino president trying to protect his place at the top. Netflix said Redman is “president of the hottest hotel casino in town. Redman has to make some long odds moves to try and secure his position and take more ground.”

The role also brings Isaac back near gambling drama. He starred in The Card Counter in 2021 and won a Golden Globe in 2015 for Show Me a Hero.

Gilpin plays Marla Blake, wife of Bobby. Netflix described her as “a brilliant, highly connected lawyer who knows how to navigate the town’s darkest corners just as well as her husband.” Gilpin is known for GLOW, Nurse Jackie, and Death by Lightning.

Baldwin takes the role of Paul “Primo” Clark, longtime chairman of the gaming organization in the series and a father figure to Bobby. Baldwin has won three Emmys and three Golden Globes, and he earned an Oscar nomination for The Cooler in 2003.

Costabile, known for Suits and Breaking Bad, plays Bill Saverick, who runs a rival casino. That role adds a direct competitor to Bobby Redman and gives the series a built-in casino business fight.
