Las Vegas Poker Palace Reopens As Club Fortune Casino North In April

A long-standing locals casino in North Las Vegas is undergoing a full rebuild after a change in ownership, with reopening targeted for mid-April under a new identity. Regulatory approval has cleared the path for operations to resume, and construction crews are already reshaping the property inside and out.

Good to Know

  • Property closed in August and was purchased in September for $20 million.
  • Reopening is planned for mid-April under the name Club Fortune Casino North.
  • Poker will return, while other table games are not expected to come back.

Truckee Gaming, based in Sparks, received approval from the Nevada Gaming Control Board on Wednesday, securing the license needed to bring the casino back to life. The venue first opened in 1974 and built a reputation around low-stakes poker and a strong local following.

Work now focuses on transforming an aging building into a more modern neighborhood casino. Leadership described the overhaul as extensive, involving structural removal and a near complete rebuild of the interior.

“It had the look that if Circus Circus and the Excalibur had a baby, that was Poker Palace,” Truckee Gaming CEO Ferenc Szony told commissioners. “It really needed a dramatic change. We gave it a far more contemporary look. It was a total gut job on the interior, where we had to rip out part of the floor. We’re in the process of rebuilding.”

A Rebrand Anchored by Locals Gaming Demand

The new operation will connect to an existing brand already familiar to Southern Nevada players. Truckee Gaming also runs Club Fortune in Henderson, roughly 15 miles to the southeast, and plans to extend that identity into North Las Vegas.

Executives want to open doors as soon as core elements are ready rather than waiting for every detail to be finalized.

“If we can get it going with 80% of the things going, we would do that,” Szony said. “That’s how the construction gets finished.”

Hiring plans prioritize many former workers, although total staff will shrink from about 125 positions to around 100 as the redesigned floor emphasizes efficiency and updated systems.

Investment is going toward new slot machines, modern gaming technology, refreshed exterior design, and a reworked layout aimed at local repeat visitation rather than tourist traffic. Plans also include a redesigned bar, expanded restaurant and kitchen capacity, and upgraded restroom facilities.

A sportsbook is part of future development, though timing has not yet been finalized.

Poker Keeps Its Seat While Other Table Games Fade

Even with a new name on the building, poker remains central to the strategy. The original brand leaned heavily on affordable games, and that customer base continues to shape planning decisions.

Reports indicate that traditional table games will not return, signaling a streamlined approach focused on slots and poker rather than a full mix of pit offerings.

Truckee Gaming leadership expressed confidence in long term potential for the site and sees opportunity in broader economic recovery across North Las Vegas. The company operates 10 other casinos, largely concentrated in northern Nevada, giving it operational scale but limited presence in the Las Vegas Valley until now.

Across the wider United States market, poker room activity has shown mixed direction. Caesars Palace brought poker back in May after a previous closure, while several regional venues added new rooms. At the same time, Planet Hollywood shut down its poker room in January only months after launching a new space, underscoring how operators continue to test demand levels property by property.
