Svenska Spel Grows in 2025 After Ending Land Casino Operations

Svenska Spel closed 2025 with higher revenue and profit even as the group completed a full exit from land based casinos. The year combined structural change with steady digital performance, allowing the state owned operator to grow despite losing an entire business line.

Svenska Spel reported net gaming revenue of SEK7.69 billion for the 12 months ending December 31 2025. The result marked a 2 percent increase compared with the prior year, according to the company full year figures.

Profitability improved alongside revenue. Operating profit climbed 10 percent to SEK2.54 billion, while net profit reached SEK1.96 billion, an 11 percent year on year increase. The performance came during a transition year that saw the complete closure of the Casino Cosmopol land based casino network.

Land Based Casinos Close While Core Segments Hold Up

The land casino exit had been underway for several years. The Casino Cosmopol venue in Sundsvall closed in 2020, followed by Gothenburg and Malmö in February 2024. The final site in Stockholm shut in April 2025, weeks after the Swedish government voted to abolish land based casinos. A nationwide ban took effect on January 1 2026.

Despite the removal of the casino segment, growth in other areas offset the loss. Svenska Spel said two core divisions delivered higher revenue during the year, keeping group level financial results on an upward path.

President and chief executive Anna Johnson said the year centered on long term repositioning:

“2025 has been a year marked by investments in growth and transformation of technology, organisation and culture to strengthen Svenska Spel and create long-term value.”

“It has also been the first full year with our strategic goals – the gaming market most satisfied customers, healthy gaming and long-term sustainable growth – with progress in all areas.”

“Revenue is increasing, while both operating profit and operating margin are higher than the previous year. The equity ratio is strengthening, and we are exceeding our financial targets.”

Digital Channels Carry Performance

The Tur lottery division remained the largest revenue contributor, generating SEK5.26 billion during 2025, up 2 percent year on year. Svenska Spel pointed to sustained interest in Eurojackpot, alongside the launch of the new Lyckoplatsen game.

Revenue within the Sport and Casino segment also increased 2 percent to SEK2.12 billion. Growth came from the Oddset sports betting brand and the online casino offering, although fewer Stryktipset rounds and jackpots compared with 2024 weighed slightly on performance.

The Vegas gaming machine business posted the only decline. Revenue fell 15 percent to SEK310 million. Svenska Spel linked the drop to stricter responsible gambling measures in physical locations and a continued shift toward online play.

Sales channel data reflected that movement. Online sales rose 8 percent to SEK4.87 billion and accounted for 63 percent of total group sales. Retail sales declined 6 percent to SEK2.53 billion, while restaurant and bingo hall sales dropped 15 percent to SEK310 million.

Profit Growth and Dividend Proposal

Pre tax profit for the year reached SEK2.61 billion, up 6 percent. Svenska Spel paid SEK507 million in tax and deducted SEK136 million tied to discontinued operations. The result left net profit at SEK1.96 billion, compared with SEK1.77 billion in 2024.

Following the full year results, the board proposed a dividend of SEK1.8 billion. If approved, the payout would exceed the SEK1.6 billion distributed for the previous year.

A solid fourth quarter supported the annual outcome. Net gaming revenue in Q4 reached SEK2.13 billion, up 2 percent, supported by lottery and online casino products. Operating profit for the quarter rose 16 percent to SEK641 million, while net profit increased 9 percent to SEK525 million.
