Argentina: Buenos Aires Trains 300 Police Cadets on Online Betting Risks

Lotería de la Ciudad, the municipal lottery operator of Buenos Aires, has trained over 300 final-year police cadets on how to identify and respond to issues linked to online betting and problem gambling. The program is part of a wider effort to curb illegal gambling and strengthen protections for vulnerable groups, especially minors.

  • More than 300 final-year police cadets received training on illegal gambling and online betting risks.
  • The initiative supports Buenos Aires efforts to block illegal sites and promote responsible gambling.
  • Lotería de la Ciudad continues to expand awareness programs across city agencies and public schools.

Training Focuses on Early Detection and Prevention

The session, delivered at the Higher Institute of Public Security (ISSP), covered clandestine betting activity, identification methods through social media, and conflicts that arise from online gambling. Cadets learned how to detect signs of risk behavior and how to intervene when they encounter individuals affected by problem gambling.

The program stressed preventive action and gave guidance on recognizing behaviors associated with illegal betting, including situations involving minors. Cadets practiced how to respond during field operations and use available tools to address gambling-related issues.

Jesús Acevedo, President of Lotería de la Ciudad, has been working closely with multiple Buenos Aires City Government agencies to protect at-risk populations from the growing influence of online betting platforms. He continues to push for education, prevention, and stronger awareness campaigns.
