Safer Gambling Week 2025 opened on Monday, marking the start of a national campaign focused on responsible play across digital and land-based gambling environments. Now in its ninth year, the initiative is coordinated by the Betting and Gaming Council, BACTA and the Bingo Association.
Good to Know
Organisers said the week will feature extensive communications across social media, gaming venues and gambling websites. The goal is to reach both regular players and new audiences with reminders about tools that help users stay in control.
Last year produced notable engagement: more than 1.5 million unique accounts used safer gambling tools, a 22 percent jump from the previous year. Nearly half of all deposit limits set during the week were created for the first time. Social media platforms saw more than 60 million impressions across X, Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn.
Baroness Twycross, Minister for Gambling, said the government continues to prioritise harm reduction and highlighted the statutory levy introduced earlier in the year. She said:
“We welcome the contribution that Safer Gambling Week makes. It provides a good opportunity to highlight the tools and support that are available to people who may need them.”
Andrew Rhodes, Chief Executive of the Gambling Commission, stressed that progress must continue through practical measures and clear promotion of user protections. He stated:
“While progress has been made, we must continue to ensure that the tools and protections available to consumers are effective and widely promoted. Collaboration and evidence-based action remain central to making gambling in Great Britain fairer, safer, and crime-free.”
Shadow Minister for Culture, Media and Sport Louie French MP also backed the campaign, pointing to the need for continued focus on safe play:
“This important initiative brings the industry together to support safe and responsible gambling. This initiative is one of the many examples of why Britain must stop the rise of the black market.”
Industry groups described the week as a collective effort to reinforce responsible play across all gambling formats. Grainne Hurst, CEO of the BGC, said the industry uses the week to promote tools that help players manage their activity.
Paul Swindon, Head of Governance and Compliance at the Bingo Association, noted that bingo has long been rooted in social interaction and entertainment. He said Safer Gambling Week serves to reinforce healthy play habits and community values.
BACTA Director of Communications Allaster Gair echoed the focus on safer environments:
“Our members take that responsibility seriously, offering support, advice, and safe spaces where customers can enjoy themselves responsibly.”
It runs from 17-23 November.
The Betting and Gaming Council, BACTA and the Bingo Association coordinate the initiative.
More than 1.5 million users engaged with safer gambling tools and deposit-limit use increased.
Officials say it raises awareness, strengthens harm-prevention efforts and reinforces customer protection.
