ACMA Blocks Seven More Illegal Gambling Sites Across Australia

Australia’s communications regulator has ordered a fresh wave of gambling site bans as it continues to tighten enforcement of national gaming laws.

Good to Know

  • Seven new websites have been blocked for breaching the Interactive Gambling Act 2001.
  • Over 1,300 illegal sites have been restricted since late 2019.
  • More than 220 unlicensed operators have left the market voluntarily since 2017.

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has directed internet service providers to restrict access to seven unlicensed online gambling sites: Crown Gold, Maxispin Casino, Rain.gg, Didibet, LuckyBet, Malina Casino, and Spins of Glory. The decision follows investigations confirming these operators were illegally offering gambling services to Australian players without approval.

ACMA’s ongoing enforcement stems from the Interactive Gambling Act 2001, which prohibits online casino-style gaming and unlicensed betting services. The authority noted that blocking access to these platforms protects consumers from unsafe and unregulated operators that often fail to provide adequate safeguards for players’ funds and privacy.

Since site-blocking began in November 2019, ACMA has taken action against 1,338 illegal gambling and affiliate websites. In addition, about 220 offshore operators have voluntarily exited the Australian market since tougher gambling regulations came into force in 2017.

In the second quarter alone, ACMA reviewed 292 of 330 public complaints and initiated 20 formal investigations into 24 sites. Ten official warnings were issued, while 73 websites were found to be in breach of the Interactive Gambling Act.

Officials continue to urge Australians to check the regulator’s register of licensed wagering services before playing. The ACMA website also provides guidance for reporting illegal gambling platforms and offers advice to help consumers avoid scams and unlicensed operators.

The authority reaffirmed that player protection remains its priority, noting that illegal gambling sites typically lack responsible gaming tools, identity verification processes, and payout transparency — putting consumers at risk of financial harm.
