The Social Gaming Leadership Alliance has named Sean Ostrow as its new Managing Director, reinforcing its mission to promote fair regulation and responsible innovation within the social gaming sector.
Good to Know
Ostrow brings more than ten years of experience shaping gaming legislation across multiple states. As a contract attorney and strategist for Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP, he helped lead policy work for Major League Baseball and the National Basketball Association.
“I’m thrilled to be joining the Social Gaming Leadership Alliance as Managing Director,” said Ostrow. “After 10 years of working to legalize and regulate fantasy sports, sports betting, and iGaming across the country, I’m excited to draw on this experience to help social games continue to thrive while protecting consumers and generating significant economic activity for states.”
He added that social gaming has been “misunderstood for too long,” and that online games using sweepstakes promotions represent a “legally sound approach that emphasizes casual entertainment and best-in-class consumer protection.”
In his new position, Ostrow will direct the alliance’s lobbying and public policy initiatives, working closely with lawmakers, regulators, and industry stakeholders. His goal is to ensure that online social games built around sweepstakes promotions continue to grow responsibly while benefiting local economies.
Jeff Duncan, Executive Director of the alliance, said that Ostrow’s mix of legislative knowledge and advocacy experience will strengthen the group’s mission: “Sean brings a rare combination of deep policy expertise and on-the-ground advocacy experience. His track record of coalition-building and navigating complex legislative environments will help the alliance advance understanding of this industry and ensure responsible innovation continues to develop.”
Before joining the alliance, Ostrow served as Manager of Government Affairs for FanDuel, where he worked on fantasy sports legislation in several states. Drawing from that background, he aims to help shape modern, consistent frameworks for the growing social gaming market. Ostrow said:
“The demand for online social gaming and entertainment gaming is tremendous. The alliance recognizes the importance of clear and modern regulation that allows adults to enjoy these games safely. We are collaborating with legislators and regulators to create standards that reward compliant operators and allow states to capture the financial benefits of fair taxation and oversight.”
The Social Gaming Leadership Alliance noted that Ostrow’s appointment reinforces its commitment to responsible growth, consumer protection, and effective regulatory dialogue. His leadership is expected to guide the industry through the next phase of structured oversight and stronger cooperation with state authorities.
