SiGMA Group, in collaboration with GamingMalta, has released a new documentary that explores Malta’s evolution into one of the world’s most influential iGaming hubs. The film spotlights the SiGMA Euro-Med 2025 Summit as a model for innovation, regulation, and collaboration between public institutions and the private sector.
Good to Know
The film examines how Malta became a cornerstone of the global gaming landscape, drawing on insights from key industry and government figures. Among those featured are Ivan Filletti, CEO of GamingMalta; Charles Mizzi, CEO of the Malta Gaming Authority; Silvio Schembri, Minister for the Economy, Enterprise and Strategic Projects; Fabian Demicoli, Head of EU Affairs and Communications at the Malta Chamber of SMEs; and Eman Pulis, founder of SiGMA Group.
“Gaming in Malta is a success story. It is one of the main pillars of the local economy, so I would say the result speaks for itself,” said Mizzi. Filletti described Malta as “a home” for gaming companies, reinforcing the island’s commitment to nurturing sustainable industry growth.
The documentary connects the Euro-Med 2025 summit’s discussions to Malta Vision 2050, a long-term national strategy that positions gaming as a priority sector. Topics featured include compliance frameworks, responsible gambling, emerging technologies, and the role of artificial intelligence and Web3 in shaping the future of gaming.
Minister Silvio Schembri emphasized the strategic importance of gaming for Malta’s economic direction:
“The gaming industry is in fact listed as one of our priority areas, not only to sustain the growth but also in the next transformative age.”
The sector contributes more than 12% of national GDP and between 6% and 7% of total gross value added, supporting over 14,000 jobs. Demicoli noted the broader economic ripple effects:
“There is a huge ripple effect — the AV industry, the catering industry — we need to continue working together for the benefit of the Maltese economy and the Maltese people.”
Filmed during Euro-Med week, the documentary also highlights major events such as the Business-to-Government reception at Fort St Angelo, the launch of SiGMA Vision 2030, and the SiGMA Awards Night, which recognized industry leaders across 27 categories.
The SiGMA Foundation auction raised 103,500 euros for education, health, and sustainability projects, while the SiGMA Poker Tour at Portomaso added both entertainment and fundraising excitement to the event.
Looking ahead, SiGMA confirmed that its Malta summit will move from September to March beginning in 2026. Pulis explained the rationale:
“Our 2030 vision is to match that energy with the players on the B2C community, but also with governments. We want SiGMA to become the most trusted authority, where players, the B2B community, regulators, and governments converge to help the industry grow sustainably.”
