Codere Italia has officially launched Codere.it, marking its entry into Italy’s regulated online gambling market. The move expands the company’s long-standing retail presence into digital gaming after obtaining an extended operating license from the Agenzia delle Dogane e dei Monopoli (ADM).
Good to Know
Codere has been active in Italy for years through gaming halls, bingo venues, and thousands of gaming machines located in bars and entertainment venues. The digital launch represents a key milestone in strengthening its footprint in one of Europe’s most competitive gambling markets.
Alejandro Pascual, regional manager for Europe and country manager for Codere Italia, said the company’s online expansion reflects its long-term commitment to customers and regulated growth:
“With Codere.it, we are taking a natural but strategic step: to also decisively consolidate the online segment, while maintaining our identity as a committed, regulated and customer-centric operator.”
“Our goal is to offer a consistent, high-quality omnichannel experience. Codere is strongly interested in developing collaborations with industry partners, particularly those already operating in Italy and wishing to continue operating online with the support of a strong and trusted brand.”
The company’s new platform aims to provide users with a seamless experience between Codere’s physical gaming venues and its digital channels, reflecting a broader trend of convergence in the Italian market.
Roberto Russo, director of online operations at Codere Italia, said the launch positions the company for sustained growth:
“We have built a solid and scalable platform, ready to grow and adapt to the needs of our users and partners. Our approach is long-term, with the goal of creating a safe gaming ecosystem capable of establishing itself as a benchmark in the Italian market.”
The expansion comes as Italy’s online gambling sector faces tighter regulation and higher operational costs. Earlier this year, the ADM completed its new tender process for remote gaming concessions, awarding just 46 licenses — a steep drop from the 93 issued in the previous round.
The updated licensing framework requires operators to pay a €7 million entry fee (around $8.2 million), a major increase from the previous €200,000 cost. In addition to these upfront expenses, licensees must meet several ongoing obligations, including tax rates of 24.5% on online sports betting GGR and 25.5% on online casino GGR. Operators are also required to contribute 3% of annual GGR as a regulatory fee and allocate 0.2% toward responsible gaming programs.
Despite rising costs, Codere sees long-term opportunity in Italy’s maturing digital market, where brand trust and regulatory compliance are increasingly vital. By leveraging its established reputation in retail gaming, the company plans to deliver a unified, safe, and scalable online experience under the Codere.it brand.
