Jacob Hobday Turns $75 Into $446K WSOP Circuit Montreal Main Event Victory

The World Series of Poker Circuit stop at Playground in Montreal made history with its largest-ever main event. Nearly two thousand players filled the room, chasing the $2,500 CAD title. Outlasting them all was Ontario’s Jacob Hobday, who not only walked away with a life-changing payday but also picked up his second WSOP Circuit gold ring.

Good to know

  • The Main Event drew 1,978 entries, the largest field in WSOPC history.
  • Hobday parlayed a $75 CAD satellite seat into a $446,400 USD win.
  • The $3.2 million USD prize pool set a new record for the WSOP Circuit.

From Satellite Seat to Record Payday

Hobday’s path to the title started with a small $75 CAD buy-in through a satellite event. That ticket took him to the $2,500 CAD Main Event, and from there, he battled through 1,978 entries to claim the top prize of $446,400 USD.

“Honestly, I don’t even know. My biggest score before this was around $60,000 (CAD), and this is just absolutely insane,” Hobday told reporters after the win.

The Canadian champion began the final table with one of the shortest stacks but steadily turned the tide. Hobday eliminated several opponents, including Dustin Melanson, William Blais, and Feizal Satchu, before entering heads-up play with a strong lead against Adrian Ottorino.

The final hand saw Ottorino push all-in with ace-five suited, but Hobday’s pocket deuces held firm, improving to a set on the flop to seal the victory. Ottorino took home $289,440 for second place.

The $446,400 top prize was by far Hobday’s biggest career cash and cemented his reputation as one of Canada’s rising poker names. It was also his second WSOP Circuit ring, showing that his earlier success was no fluke.
