Influencer culture in Brazil has been running into heavy legal questions, and one of the latest names caught up in the storm is Raquel Brito. Authorities in Bahia say she is under investigation for her role in promoting so-called “Tigrinho” gambling platforms, a name Brazilians often use when talking about the online slot game Fortune Tiger and similar sites.
Good to know
The Public Prosecutor’s Office of Bahia (MP-BA) confirmed that Brito was questioned earlier this year. According to investigators, she may have run deceptive advertising campaigns encouraging people to play on illegal gambling sites that operate under different brand names.
What concerns regulators most is the possibility of money laundering linked to these activities. Authorities allege that her promotional content didn’t just reach a general audience—it targeted lower-income communities, making the case more sensitive due to the social impact on vulnerable groups.
The questioning, according to MP-BA, covered multiple areas: the partnerships Brito had with gambling operators, how the money flowed, whether players ever received their promised payouts, and if she declared any of the income to tax authorities.
Officials say they requested the inquiry to determine if consumer protection laws were violated. As of now, her legal defense team has not released any official comment.
Brito is not alone in facing these accusations. Police in Brazil have already gone after a group of influencers, including Tainá Sousa, not too long ago, with around 15 individuals under investigation for promoting illegal betting apps.
