The Nevada Gaming Commission has signed off on two key developments in the state’s betting market: sportsbook operator Boomer’s is now licensed at Casino Fandango in Carson City, and Flutter Entertainment has been cleared to conduct a public offering in Nevada.
Good to know
Boomer’s, the sportsbook founded by industry veteran Joe Asher, received unanimous approval to take over operations from William Hill at Casino Fandango. Initially, Asher expected a two-month notice would keep William Hill on-site through football season, but the operator accepted just a one-month exit, clearing the way for Boomer’s debut ahead of kickoff.
This new license adds to Boomer’s Nevada presence, with operations already launched in Elko, satellite sportsbooks at Ellis Island Casino in Las Vegas, and Casino Valle Verde in Henderson. Asher told regulators that more locations will likely be introduced soon.
To build its customer base, Boomer’s has been promoting a $250 bonus bet offer for players making a $250 deposit. According to Asher, account registrations have been climbing quickly thanks to the promotion. He also confirmed the sportsbook will run all NFL straight wagers at -105 odds, offering bettors a more favorable price than the standard -110.
In a separate decision, commissioners also approved Flutter Entertainment Plc, the Dublin-based parent company of FanDuel, to conduct a public offering in Nevada.
The move comes against the backdrop of ongoing disputes between regulators and prediction market operator KalshiEx LLC. Earlier this year, the Nevada Gaming Control Board issued a cease-and-desist order against Kalshi, calling it an unlicensed sportsbook. Kalshi later filed suit against the board and the commission, and that case is still active.
During Thursday’s meeting, Flutter finance director Mark Irwin clarified that the group has no current plans to work with Kalshi. He also said that if any conversations did take place, the company would notify regulators immediately.
