Poker Palace Casino, a North Las Vegas staple since the 1970s, will officially close on October 1, 2025. Known for its neighborhood feel and long-standing community ties, the casino has been a regular stop for locals for over five decades. The closure was confirmed through a WARN letter submitted to state and gaming regulators.
Good to know
Located at 2757 N. Las Vegas Boulevard near Nellis Air Force Base, Poker Palace has operated on a 25,900-square-foot gaming floor offering slots, bingo, table games, poker, and sports betting. It also houses Maddy’s Paddy Café, named after the owners’ grandson.
The building dates back to 1951, when it originally opened as Bunny’s Bar. In 1974, Marvin “Mickey” Coleman and his wife Laura turned it into Poker Palace, keeping it family-run ever since. Over the years, the casino built a reputation as a laid-back, locals-first venue in a rapidly evolving city.
In 2006, the Nevada Gaming Control Board fined Coleman $250,000 after three employees were found involved in illegal race book activity. Though Coleman wasn’t directly implicated, the fine was issued for supervisory lapses.
The casino’s closure adds to a growing list of legacy Vegas properties disappearing from the map. Last month, Royal Resort—first opened in 1970—was slated for demolition after sitting closed since a 2022 fire triggered widespread water damage from the sprinkler system.
So far, the Coleman family hasn’t commented on what comes next. The WARN notice indicates a sale is underway, but it’s not yet clear whether the building will be redeveloped or repurposed.
