Brazilian authorities have cracked down on a group of social media influencers in São Luís accused of promoting illegal gambling and laundering millions. The Civil Police confirmed the operation targeted five individuals, with local online audiences now buzzing over the case.

According to the Civil Police, the influencers used polished, persuasive content to push users toward gambling websites and WhatsApp groups managed under Tainá Sousa’s name.

Delegate Pedro Adão shared that while police requested Sousa’s arrest, the court opted for precautionary measures instead. “She cannot leave the country, had to surrender her passport, and is prohibited from using social media or accessing online gambling platforms,” he explained.

Inside the Alleged Scheme

The police believe the operation ran like a structured business. Each member had a role: some handled marketing, others recruited players, and a lawyer allegedly managed the money flow. The laundering process reportedly involved buying high-end vehicles under other people’s names and moving cash through bank investments and intermediaries.

Among the luxury items seized were a Range Rover Velar, Range Rover Evoque, BMW, Toyota Hilux, and a jet ski. Officials also froze R$11.4 million in assets linked to the group.
