Iowa Casinos and Sportsbooks Generate Over $27 Million in Taxes

Iowa’s gaming industry posted solid numbers in June, with both casino and sports betting figures showing year-over-year growth. The latest data from the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission highlights a steady stream of revenue from table games, slots, and online wagers across the state.

In June, Iowa casinos collected $136.9 million in AGR. Slot machines continued to lead the way, producing $124.1 million in revenue, while table games brought in $12.8 million. From that total, the state received nearly $26 million in taxes, with local governments collecting just under $600,000.

The numbers reflect stable demand in the state’s land-based gaming sector, with slot revenue continuing to dominate the market.

On the sports betting side, Iowa reported a total handle of $168.1 million last month. That figure is almost $22 million higher than the handle recorded in June 2024. Of that total, $158.9 million came from online betting, processed through 19 different licensed operators.

Net internet receipts totaled $18.3 million, while overall net receipts came in at $19.2 million. Players won $149 million statewide, with $140.5 million of that tied to online wagers.

The growth in mobile betting reflects a broader national trend toward digital platforms, and Iowa’s market continues to follow that path. Sports wagering contributed more than $1.3 million in taxes to the state last month.
