Good to know
With Pokerverse VR, Nazara Publishing has entered the world of virtual reality and metaverse gaming. This title marks the company’s first release in the AR/VR space, setting the stage for more immersive projects ahead. Speaking on the launch, Nitish Mittersain, Joint Managing Director and CEO of Nazara Technologies, shared the company’s outlook:
“With Pokerverse VR, we’re taking our first step into immersive gaming experiences at Nazara Publishing. As platforms like Apple Vision Pro and Meta Quest gain traction, we see exciting possibilities in this space.”
Nazara is now actively seeking to partner with developers who want to build games for these new platforms. While there are no other VR titles currently announced, the publishing division is focused on growing its presence in this segment.
The game was designed to make poker feel intuitive and tactile in a VR environment. Players can sit at virtual poker tables with others from around the world, using gesture-based controls to check, call, or fold. YesGnome founder Sridhar Muppidi highlighted their goal:
“We wanted to reimagine poker as an immersive, social experience that felt tactile, intuitive, and global from day one.”
Players can choose between a fully virtual setting or bring the poker table into their real surroundings using augmented reality. The game supports solo mode with AI opponents, as well as progression tracking and daily rewards to keep users engaged.
Pokerverse VR is now live on both the Meta Quest Store and Apple Vision Pro App Store. As the game grows, Nazara Publishing hopes to continue backing projects that explore the future of gaming through virtual and augmented platforms.
