Good to know

  • Vieira has now earned more than $22.8 million in tournament winnings.
  • This win is his second largest career cash.
  • The final table featured several elite names including Phil Ivey, Isaac Haxton, and Ben Heath.

Joao Vieira is no stranger to deep runs in high-stakes tournaments. Just three months ago, he earned $4.6 million at the Triton Poker Series in Jeju. Now, he is back with another huge payday at the WSOP, topping a 103-entry field packed with some of poker’s toughest names.

His previous bracelet wins came in no-limit hold’em events: the $5,000 six-max in 2019, the $50,000 high roller in 2022, and a $25,000 online high roller in 2023. With this latest victory, he now has four WSOP titles and solidified his spot among the most consistent players in today’s high roller circuit.

Final Day Recap

The final day began with eight players and Aram Oganyan leading the pack. Vieira held the second-largest stack, and the rest of the field was playing from behind with 22 big blinds or fewer.

Notable names who made it into the money included Chris Hunichen, David Peters, Adrian Mateos, and Phil Ivey, who exited in ninth place. Vinny Lingham was first to bust from the final table, followed by Emilien Pitavy and Andrew Lichtenberger. The action heated up as Thomas Boivin, Isaac Haxton, and Ben Heath all fell in sequence, setting the stage for an intense final stretch.

Throughout the final table, Vieira played disciplined poker, taking calculated risks while avoiding major traps. He picked off bluffs, landed key doubles, and weathered multiple chip lead swings during heads-up play with Oganyan. The match was long and featured several all-in showdowns where fortunes flipped more than once. Ultimately, Vieira won the crucial pots when it mattered most, including a bluff that forced Oganyan off a pair and a strong call with ace-high in the final hand.

Vieira held firm down the stretch and closed out the tournament when his king-jack held against queen-eight on the final board, locking up his second seven-figure cash of the year.
