Limit hold’em may no longer dominate poker rooms like it once did, but the format still draws loyal players to the World Series of Poker each year. That was clear in Event #33: $1,500 Limit Hold’em, where 491 entries helped push the total prize pool to $651,802—an 11% increase from the 443-player field in 2024.
Good to know
Canada’s Jason Duong won his first WSOP bracelet after battling through a field of 491 players in the $1,500 Limit Hold’em event. He claimed the $130,061 top prize after defeating Adam Tyburski in a heads-up session that stretched close to three hours.
This was not Duong’s first cash in this event—he placed 33rd in the same tournament in 2022. His persistence paid off this year as he navigated a competitive field that included several decorated bracelet winners.
Adam Tyburski took home $86,673 for second place. The top 74 finishers earned payouts, and several notable players went deep, including Scott Seiver (34th), Daniel Idema (32nd), David “Bakes” Baker (26th), John Monnette (25th), Ian Johns (9th), and Chris Hunichen (8th).
Although limit hold’em no longer dominates the live poker scene like it once did, especially in cash games, it still attracts dedicated players to the WSOP tables. The 2025 turnout outpaced the 2024 field of 443 entries, showing that interest in the format remains strong.
Veteran players and newcomers alike see this event as a key stop on the schedule. The steady structure of limit hold’em can offer a different type of strategic depth compared to no-limit formats, which continues to appeal to a specific group of players.
