After a succsessful 2024 series, Caleb Furth started his 2025 World Series of Poker run by winning Event #5: $5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha, claiming the top prize of $620,696. The event drew 757 entries, even surpassing the turnout for the parallel no-limit hold’em tournament at the same price point—something rarely seen during the early stretch of the WSOP.
Good to know
Furth, a Las Vegas local with almost $2 million in tournament earnings, added to his growing resume with this win. His first bracelet came in 2024 when he took down the $1,500 PLO eight-or-better event. This latest title, however, brought a career-best payday.
He nearly exited the tournament late on Day 2, left with just 100,000 chips while the big blind sat at 80,000. By the time play wrapped that night, he had clawed his way back to 18 big blinds—and the next day, he turned that position into a victory.
Eleven players started Day 3, with Czech pro Martin Kabrhel and Greece’s Roussos Koliakoudakis sharing the chip lead. Kabrhel had his usual presence felt at the table, including multiple time-clock calls that eventually limited his action window to 10 seconds. Germany’s Fabian Riebau-Schmithals later took control by the time the final table formed, with Furth sitting mid-pack.
The final table saw Furth steadily climb. He knocked out Koliakoudakis and Noel Rodriguez and eliminated Mark Aridgides with kings up. He also doubled through Riebau-Schmithals with trip deuces in a key heads-up pot after being behind in chips. From there, Furth pushed ahead and closed it out with a six-high straight that held against a gutshot draw from Riebau-Schmithals, who finished second for $413,762.
Kabrhel, who took third for $288,775, pushed his career earnings past $13.6 million. Meanwhile, Riebau-Schmithals walked away with the largest score of his live poker career.
Furth now stands out as one of the most consistent PLO players at the WSOP, and this win only strengthens his position heading into the rest of the series.
